The next major update for Sins of a Solar Empire, the best-selling PC strategy game of 2008 that puts the player in command of an interstellar empire at war, is here!

Since this new update is huge and contains several brand new technologies, we're going to be offering it as an optional beta for those who want to help test it out and provide feedback.

Version 1.1 not only includes a host of play balancing changes but new content such as an updated graphics engine, updated visuals, new damage animations, and more. It also includes a new multiplayer system called "Alloy" which eliminates the need for configuring routers or changing port numbers.

This beta update will be available only through Stardock's new Impulse platform (http://www.impulsedriven.com).

See the full change log for all the details and the beta information thread for more information on obtaining the update.

The serial code and CD key are the same thing. It should be on a sticker above the disc-holder in the box.

FYI,
I downloaded and installed the patch, and played a very nice game with it. Love what you have done. HOWEVER, there appears to be some conflict with mods. I tried running my 7 DEADLY SINS mod, and I get a runtime error and then a dump to the desktop. This is a serious issue now for me, as I cannot work on the mod as now the game won't allow it, the DEV.exe will not work, nor will the Particle or Galaxy Forge. Can something be done ASAP so that I can get back on track, or do I need to uninstall everything, and then continue on with 7 DEADLY SINS without the 1.1 patch?
PLEASE GET BACK TO ME. Thank you!

It should be a no-brainer that the patch would break mods Blair posted that they're going to release the new mod tools soon so people can get their mods updated for 1.1.

but I am very interested in hearing about the new explosives engine. For those of you who have played the new beta, any comments on it? How does it look? How is it different?

It's very nice. Screenshots don't do it justice.
The beta doesn't seem to have many bugs, either.

Ok I'm getting a "Setup is not supported by Windows XP x64" message when trying to install this Impulse dealy. Could someone point me towards a fix for this, or the right place for an answer if this is the wrong place to ask.

I'd like to try this beta on my currently fully working x64 copy of SoaSE

Tell XP to run the installer in 32-bit mode and that should do the trick.

Are the graphical updates compatible to bailknight's mod? His mod improves 1.05 so much; it would be nice to have it as a 'standard' game feature everyone has instead of a mod.

I figured as much too, but I just didn't think it would totally mess them up. But if they are going to put out a mod pack for the beta, then that would be great. It would also be great if we could get a rundown of all the hardcodes now. That would make things a lot smoother. I would love to be able to take advantage of the new changes, but I guess I need to see exactly what changed, got removed, or added, so that I can adjust the mod to get on track. Hopefully this will all be made available soon. Thanks Annatar. Hopefully the DEVS will respond too.

If I install the Beta, does that mean that I can only play with other people who have the beta? Can the beta be turned on and off like a mod so that I can play with people who don't have the beta?
on Jul 25, 2008
I like the gameplay adjustments-different and a little better. Slightly quicker.

Bugs encountered: Pathing mostly. When I would move my fleet sometimes part of it would take a different route through an enemy territory. I was playing as Vasari. This happened numerous times. Sometimes the part of the fleet that took the other path, when it reached the other gravity well, would attempt to rejoin my flagship by taking a direct path to the flagship's current gravity well location. It took this path despite the planet's not having a phase lane link, and they would move at sublight speed.

No, it can't be turned on and off. If you install it, the only way to play with people who don't have it is to uninstall the game and reinstall it with the 1.05 archive or re-download with "show pre-release" disabled.

Do you have a save of this? Ship behavior issues are very hard to reproduce from scratch, saves/replays do wonders.

Also, bugs need to be posted in Beta Feedback in a separate thread.

Hello Stardock

I don`t understand why you couldn`t launch the sins beta 1.1 from the original stardock central program. I have so much problems with that impulse program on windows vista. It cant connect to the server because he cant connect to the internet, but i have a internet connection and no firewall running. The original stardock central program works fine no problems at all. When install the impulse program and i run it the program is asking for my account and password, when i`ve entered it i press log in and the i get the message can`t connect to server. Then from that point on i am totally stuck.

i hope you can help me or please launch it from the stardock central program it works alot better.

I have to say I'm quite impressed with Impulse, it seems quite robust. It's also good to see that the next generation distribution is here.

Hopefully one day the music industry will follow.

I think it's part of their copy protection and anti-piracy scheme.

Have you tried right click, run as admin? That did wonders for me on my vista 64 notebook. Otherwise I get an "NOT ABLE TO CREATE TEMPORARY DIRECTORIES" error.
And well... It's not the right thread for this, but I cant download Nexagon: Deathmatch through Impulse. I get an "Unknown problem. Download did not complete" error.
Anyway, hurray for Impulse! Lovely interface! My only gripe so far (exept for the Nexagon debacle) is that the preferences are hidden under the stardock icon. It's far from obvious that it's "clickable". You might consider having a separate Prefs tab.
Cheers!
