The next major update for Sins of a Solar Empire, the best-selling PC strategy game of 2008 that puts the player in command of an interstellar empire at war, is here!

Since this new update is huge and contains several brand new technologies, we're going to be offering it as an optional beta for those who want to help test it out and provide feedback.

Version 1.1 not only includes a host of play balancing changes but new content such as an updated graphics engine, updated visuals, new damage animations, and more. It also includes a new multiplayer system called "Alloy" which eliminates the need for configuring routers or changing port numbers.

This beta update will be available only through Stardock's new Impulse platform (http://www.impulsedriven.com).

See the full change log for all the details and the beta information thread for more information on obtaining the update.

...Give me a patch download outside the dam manager, because I hate this thing...

@ Aurellious,

Sorry, not going to happen.

We are here to help you get it downloaded with IMPULSE though, so what have you all tried?

Made sure you've got "show pre-release versions" selected after clicking the blue ORB?

Made sure to put a check-mark into use "new download mechanism" under PREFERENCES after clicking the blue ORB?

Post back with more specifics and I'll be glad to offer more help...

IMPULSE is here to stay, best to find a way to work with it.

Boneidle,

Try again with all of your AV/anti-malware software DISABLED.

Tokubashi,

"processing" means it's comparing the 800+ files to see which ones need updating......patience, you sound like one of my teenage sons!

I sincerely hope that the need to load .NET onto my computer in order to do a simple download for a game update is only temporary, and that after beta I can download this normally. If I have to add .NET, then sorry, I don't like your games enough to saddle my computer with that junk just to do a download, particularly when you'd only require that because of some bogus marketing reason ("need to get their eyes on Impulse!").

Muse98354,

It has been stated many times now on these forums by the DEVS that all further patches (bonus material) will be via IMPULSE only!

If you choose not to run Impulse (and install any additional software it may require) then you are also choosing to not get any further "bonus material".

For people who won't get the .NET stuff, they'll figure out a way or go away. The +58karma Monk gives perhaps the nicest "STFU" post ever.    The Impulse only warning has been around for a long time now.

Still most will DL the .NET crud out of sheer necessity and choke on their pride later. Remember, it's only your soul dying, after that nothing really hurts.

hi

so is there an official release date for 1.1 set already?

i mean it was announced for middle of july and now its middle of august and still beta testing.

i also find the beta test pretty amusing. cause there must be the possibility that 1.1 makes the game worse than 1.05 is, otherwise they would just release it. can it really get any worse?

sins is fuked atm. so few people play online. hard to get a game. lost of crashes. most serious (good) players quit cause they get bored by the technical problems.

sins staff seems to work pretty hard on their distribution, releasing the game in more and more countries but they dont seem to work that hard on fixing their game. i mean, how long do we have this major technical problems with sins now? much longer than half a year.

so i can just repeat my advice: fix the game, then concentrate on distribution
(after already releasing a buggy game too early. why u keep repeating the same mistake?)

No. The beta was announced for mid July, the full release at end of summer sometime (1-2 months of testing).

The rest is your personal opinion which a lot of people won't agree with and I won't bother debate.

I play for the SINS MODS; if not for them, I wouldn't have played SINS longer than a week.

How MOD friendly is this 1.1 gonna be? Are mods for 1.05 going to have to be totally reworked to be 1.1 compatible and is this a demented way for the DEVS to get everyone playing vanilla instead of chocolate, pineapple, uberdubbatootiefruity and all the mods that completely blow away vanilla until modders get their work functioning in 1.1?

on Aug 14, 2008
It'll be as mod friendly as the other patches? I really don't know why you'd think otherwise Tin foil hat off!
on Aug 15, 2008
The Tin Foil Hat remains researched to 3rd level. Keep away with the disabling beams!
I know that people will be able to mod stuff when 1.1 comes out.

Will existing mods work with what's cooking now; what sort of things will modders need to change in mods made for 1.05 to make them work right in 1.1? I hate the forum search tool so spoon me the info please. I couldn't get the search to find "Dev.exe" so I don't have high hopes that I'll find the answer.

on Aug 15, 2008
Almost all mods won't work with 1.1. The only one I've seen work is the sound mod.

Not entirely sure what will need to be changed with the mods as we don't know what has been changed in the .entity files.

And yeah,I don't bother using the forum search function either. I use google.

Has anyone else had a major problem downloading Impulse? I keep getting the error: "...unable to download updated files from the internet...check net connection and firewall settings and retry..."

I'm running XP SP2 and have run this with the firewall (norton) set to low, and disabled, with the same results.

Any help would be appreciated.
on Aug 17, 2008
So I'm trying to download and install the Implulse application. I have tried on both XP SP2 32bit box and a Vista 64bit box. Each time with the same result, an error message: "The Impulse setup program is unable to download files from the Internet to complete the installation process. Please check your Internet connection and firewall settings and retry setup. The Impulse installation will now exit. Note: You can also visit www.ImpulseDriven.com to download an updated version of the Impulse setup program."

"Error IMPD01-300"

Each time I tried with my norton firewall disabled and my computer placed in the DMZ. I also download and ran the installer from the site(saving and then running and also tried running from ie temp folder). I clear the ie cache each time. I also tried with fire fox.

What gives? Is this apart of the game? I just want to download this beta patch and have some fun this afternoon. Am I suppose to hold down a secret key sequance while running the installer? Please help! I love you games and the Impulse concept seems intresting, but by the volume of complaints on this fourm, you have a problem. I think that it is time for some transparency and a dedication of resources to resloving these problems.
