Tweaks, fixes and maps!

Soon we'll be releasing the v1.05 update for Sins of a Solar Empire that should address many of the multiplayer issues some players have reported. This is a minor patch, however; more substantial updates will arrive with version 1.1.

v1.05 Changes:

  • Fixed bug deallocating particle pool memory.
  • Fixed cargo ship related crash caused when loading a saved game.
  • Increased the maximum length of map description text. If the text is too long, it will no longer crash the game.
  • AI missions no longer continue if a human player has taken over for them.
  • AI controlled units will no longer still have AI-control if a human player has taken over for them.
  • Fixed crash when attempting to toggle the autocast state for an uncontrollable ship/planet module.
  • Fixed capturable resource mines from being considered damageable.
  • Fixed sync error in multiplayer games caused by cannon autocast targetting.
  • Fixed squad owner infocards to gracefully handle large numbers of squads (100+).
  • Fixed crash if you run out of video memory when loading textures.
  • Planet asteroid setup now uses TotalMaxResourcesAsteroids parameter again.
  • Added two new maps: Melting Point and Ancient Gifts.
  • ICO accounts will now be forced to logout if you attempt to login with the same account.
  • Malice changed to fix CPU issues in the late game due to previous implementation of the ability. Malice now accumulates damage on affected targets and then spreads that damage when the buff expires, rather than spreading damage as soon as damage is applied. Its duration, cooldown and AM cost have all been reduced to reflect this. Malice is now target capped as well at 8/16/24 targets.
  • Fixed bug in galaxy generator related to vertical planet offsets when planets are too close together.
  • New default texture quality settings set.

Also, why is this called a "bonuspack"?

The release-day patch does include extra content (maps, mainly) over the base retail version. The name stuck in subsequent versions of the standalone update.

you should do a clean install on your rig.
likely something else (such as Anti Virus or a firewall like ZoneAlarm) is the prob.

wow...got this game last week, and it's amazing. I've had a game going for a while, now, so I'll need to finish that before I update.

Can anyone tell me where I can find the history of changes/fixes from previous versions as well?

I hope with the patch with version 1.1 they will fix the AI having the ability to spawn ships at will and at 2x the set value of ships.

I hate having to fight with the AI to the point that he has 2x more ships than I do and his ships are able to take more damage than mine with less technology.

It sucks. I normally play with 4 to 6 AI with pirates. I normally control most of the planets. However, when it gets to the point where the AI of one race gets down to 2 or 3 planets then suddenly the AIs go nuts. Two of the more powerful AI races spawn massive fleets at rates unrealistically. I know I am the most technological of the races and by this point in the game I have the largest economy and have fairly nice rate of resources and money coming in. But, with these AI massive fleets which are larger than any I can field show up its just not right.

I have pushed out to the max in research for logistics and fleet size. I have taken the fleet resource to zero while having the max number of capital ships allowed by the game. My fleet normally runs around 200 to 250 ships in total.

But I have faced down and watch my planets get wiped out by fleets that are 300 plus.

I just quit a game and came here looking for a patch after I had two AI fleets each more than mine. My first fleet was 7 captial ships and 87 other ships. My second fleet was 5 capital ships and 91 other ships.

The AI sent to one fleet 5 capital ships and 240 other ships. Then it immediately sent a second fleet with 5 captial ships with 167 ships.

According to the charts I went from being the most powerful to dead last after 6 minutes. It was a matter of time to total loss because the AI was replacing ships in a steady stream faster than I could. Had finished all but a few tech slots in the military side and I should have been the most technological based on the fact the the same two AIs were slugging it out with massive fleets every few minutes. When they were not slugging it out they were attacking me. I got rid of the pirates because after a while in the game they are more trouble to me than useful. After a point in the game, Pirates just pin down a few ships but does no damage to any player.

But the AIs just can not have the unfair advantage of massive fleets way greater in size and having what I see as an unfair advantage in hit points and attack ratio.

If I have more technology and have better ships, then I should kill better. Yet, I watch my better ships die rather quickly. It is a function of the fleet size truth but even so I have done all attack of every ship I have to attack the AI's most powerful Capital ship with experience between 4 and 8.

Noramally at this time all but three or four have better than 7 experience points with a few having 10. Yet the AI's capital ship survives the assult and my fleet in destroyed. One ship should not survive an attack of 94 ships.

Thus I hope patch 1.1 fixes this problem in single player!

The AI only cheats when set to Unfair difficulty level.

I like the ancient gifts map. I played random and ended up with Vasari which I thouht was lucky as they have the portal thing that could move ships between systems instead of using warp points. Only it didn't work and had to crawl though warp points instead. Was this specific to this map or something else I'm missing?

I can't download the patch... because when i try to register the game it says invalid code. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I bought the game June the third. When I type in the register code do I need to leave the - out?

I agree with the guy who said the things about the pirates and mission. In single player mode human players should be able to give the al missions.

You guys are awesome.

No, type it exactly as on the sticker in the box. If there's any confusion, it will have only 0-9 and A-F in it (no L, letter O, etc.). If that doesn't help, contact support@stardock.com and they can get you fixed up.

I cant seem to update my game. It installs and claims it updates fine but when I start it up it loads my 1.04 games fine and when I click updates it loads up the 1.05V page. And the most important thing is that there seems to be a memory leak because my game randomly freezes and my RAM usage is 1.87 out of 2 Gigs.

I am running Vista ultimate 64x with a 7900GS OC and a E6600 OC. Any ideas?

i think your confused with this being an unfair AI, only those "cheat"

you've spend to much resources on capital ships

my formula = about 1 capital ship every 25 frigates / cruisers

having 7 caps with 94 frigs / cruisers means you have a sick amount of spells to aid your fleet without an actual fleet... remember that caps arent the key to victory, tough important and able to suck up lotsa fire (specially start-game) u dont mass capitals unless u got large fleet (or if you've got RA with vasari)

1.05 *should* be save-compatible with 1.04, though it may not be 100%, so that doesn't say a lot. The important thing is what version the game shows in the bottom right corner of the main menu.

The 1.5 patch fixes a lot of crashes. It makes playing the game more enjoyable. Ty for the patch and for the quick answer. I typed in o's instead of 0's. Ty a lot.

The only thing I can find missing in this game so far is there's no option to start in the same star system for cooperative multiplayer games. Me and my brother have worked around this by restarting the game until it puts us in the same star, but it is highly annoying to restart 20 times before actually playing.
