Published on June 13, 2007 By Yarlen In Sins News

This will be going out to the press tomorrow morning, but we wanted to give the Sins fans an early heads-up. There's a few new exclusive Sins shots for everyone below as well.

Gamers who missed the first phase of the Sins of a Solar Empire beta test will soon get another chance to play Stardock and Ironclad's highly anticipated strategy game ahead of its February 2008 release. Beta 2 launches on June 21 for anyone who has pre-ordered Sins of a Solar Empire via TotalGaming.net, and includes a ton of new features that will be included in the final game, as well as tweaks and fixes based on feedback from beta testers. June 21 will also see the launch of the new official Sins of a Solar Empire website at: https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com

Sins of a Solar Empire is an epic RT4X strategy game, providing grand-scale strategic gameplay in a real-time environment. Beta 2 once again allows would-be galactic commanders to play through the single-player sandbox game as the Trader Emergency Coalition (TEC), acting as high-level strategists to conquer new planets and to manage diplomatic relations, then seamlessly moving to the role of battle commander - directing individual ships to attack priority targets - via Sins' breakthrough 3D game engine.

In Beta 2, Ironclad Games has implemented an upgraded Bounty system including marauding Pirates, an improved interface including the new Event Tracking system, an expanded combat and tactical-counter model, improved planetary management, a new Capital Planet system, an expanded tech tree, upgraded strategic and tactical AI, even more strategic options, a refined economic system, improved graphics and much more. New players don't need to worry about getting lost in the new features, as Beta 2 also includes two new advanced tutorials and enhancements to existing tutorials to introduce new gameplay concepts.

Sins of a Solar Empire can be pre-ordered for $44.95 or 5 TGN tokens at: http://totalgaming.stardock.com/games/?id=sins. For more information about the game, visit the official website at: https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com

In the third screenshot Craig, their appears to be a new TEC ship. Beta 2? or Later? Have any of the existing ships received a new makeover like the Carrier and Battleship?

If you preorder before beta 2 starts, you will be given access to the beta when it begins next week.  You should get an email saying your payment has been processed, at which point you'll have access to the beta.

You can download it immediately, or wait weeks.  Once you have access, it sticks.  You will also be in all further beta phases.

As for downloading it, you will have to use Stardock Central, our distribution and update management software.  Once the beta is activated on your account, you will see it as a downloadable option under the Games section in the "Purchased Software" list.  Until the order is processed, it will not show in Stardock Central as purchased.

You can grab SDC here: https://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp

SDC is also how we distribute updates to the beta build, so you'll need to keep it on your system to keep up with the beta.

There is more than one Beta 2 twinkie in that shot Lets see who can guess what ship types you can find...

Hmm, Interesting choice of word especially since the third picture has a 2 "ghost" image of two ship (They are difficult to make out however they have fins each 45 angle. No tec ship has shape like that which lead me to suggest a "cloak frigate/capital". The reason for not sure of size is because they are bit far away.) If you look between the "siege frigate" and the planet you will notice an piece of hull that seem unlike any tec ship before either. It look VERY smooth with few window on it. It could be either a new station type or a very strange ship to have features like that. Let me see what else that you could definite as twinkie. There is two capital ship in the top right and top left. The top left seem to be the new carrier capital however I could be wrong on this. The top right could be a Dumov however there isn't enough detail to make an accurate match.Yeah the explosion between the two "ghost" ship which is somewhat difficult to tell what it was before being blow up. Did I hit any twinkies too hard?
on Jun 16, 2007
Hey Xavior, I can't find your "ghost ship". Can you do what I sometimes do and cirle the ship in MSPaint? A twinkie might be the explosions. In Beta 1 they all looked the same (well, the frig ones looked different than the cap ones).

Thanks.

After looking at it bit more seem there is a third "ghost" ship behind the explosion but I won't draw circle for it because that may make it harder to see it.

to me it just looks like some explosions that are happening
on Jun 16, 2007
Yeah, it just looks like a blue explosion.
on Jun 16, 2007
That the problem there are THREE of them that doesn't look like they happen at the same time. (The one that is semi-blocked by siege frigate look like it is view from a different angle which suggest that it is a "physical body" from another angle which is different from the bigger one on left.) I will host another picture to show what I meant by different angle by put both ghost ship right next to each other. This is only to show the contrast between both ghost.

Twinkie Mark II Sorry about the horrible photoshop skill

Notice how the ship on left center shape is toward left-top meanwhile the right is toward the viewer. Plus there is nothing in Beta 1 that give off blue explosion, I may be wrong if so let me know.
