IGN has posted a preview of Sins of a Solar Empire - Diplomacy, based on their experiences with a late beta of the upcoming micro-expansion.

"Diplomacy is a bit of a game changer and adds a missing element to the game. In the same way that Entrenchment helped to reorient the combat by giving players defensive options that encouraged bigger and better space battles, Diplomacy seems to give players an opportunity to compete with each other much more indirectly. Better still, it can really help you find an outlet for those resource surpluses that come up from time to time. Knowing that you can win goodwill and encourage your rivals to attack each other helps you manipulate the game in more subtle ways."

"This is still a game about war, of course, so you won't be using Diplomacy to win a democratic sort of victory, but it does allow for lots of manipulation of both your allies and your enemies throughout the course of the game."

There is a Diplomatic Victory and some other new elements that probably weren't available in the build he was using for the preview so it is quite possible to win a non-military victory.

Very Very nice Blair!  Thanks to all the team for the hard work, Am downloading the update on Diplomacy now, but the new Sins main and Entrenchment run very very smooth and look very balanced. Thanks for everything!
