Craig Fraser
Hey Guys,  Reporting from LA here... Can't wait to get home and polish this off!
By the way, system specs will remain the same despite all the new features and content!

You guys outdid yourselves on that I mean, I figured starbases were going to be big, but man. If that was the cheaper and weaker TEC starbase, I can only imagine a Vasari's powerhouse.

Keep up the awesomeness is all I can say

Really awesome video, Blair.  More please! (yeah, I know I know. Soon™)

on Oct 10, 2008

nice nice.

too bad we heard to little about the minefields. like how they are deployed (via a ship? via building them through the planet menu?), what their capabilities are (destroy? disable? hinder?), whether they can be spotted by enemies and in general what can be done against them. maybe like they can be destroyed by squads, bc they are too small to be targeted.

also, that tec base had such a strange interior hangar. is it actually capable of building units? oh, and one important thing about starbases: it was said one alone could savely defend an entire grav well. what does this tell us about their range? I mean, could you not just fly by at the corners with clever pre-jump positioning? or is its range like half a standard grav well? even so, sun and gas giant wells are much bigger, so the problem arises again.

btw. the spiked thingy could be the special building, you know the subspace inhibitor. looks vasari to me.

looking forward to it. wonder if there is a beta. probably, if they even spend months for a patch beta, an expansion will get one too.

Oh damn! just saw the interview and it was awsome, somebody at Stardock is a sifi geek who is into believeable future technology, you guys are dedicated to this game, and I still say that this game mirrors the theme of my beloved and dearly missed Babylon 5/Crusade series.

For all you Vasari and Advent lovers out there, beware of the Trader Coalition because we have just begun to fight, with out diplomats and economic might we will buy the war and win it

It would have to be a very short beta then. Considering 1.1 doesn't come out until the end of October, and Entrenchment launches on November 18th.. that's like, 2-3 weeks max?

Not that I'd mind getting my hands on it before the launch, of course!

on Oct 10, 2008

yay, another B5 fan! in that spirit "and so it begins ..."

hope for more info soon. I'd say there's a little gabriel in all of us that craves to learn and understand more. hmm hunger.

@ beta: yeah, thought about that too. no idea how it will be handled, the short amount of time kinda does limit options. but, as you said, no objections to getting a beta version to play around with.

What abilities your starbases have is a choice left to the player.   You'll have to make strategic choices as to their abilities - so you can build them out as ship factories or hardcore defense stations, etc. depending on how you build them out.

The spiked ball was a mine. It looked huge because it was zoomed in on.

on Oct 10, 2008

Yarlen. It's not nice to do that to us. It's one thing for Blair/Craig to talk about it since they're coding the thing, but for you to remind us that you have it too..

*runs off weeping uncontrollably*

Just kidding All info is appreciated of course

you see, some of the most important facts are sometimes hidden or mentioning along with more info.

there was talk about choices, what abilities starbases would have, but I for one thought more about different weapons/ defense layouts or abilites as found in capital ships. I did not really expect the ability to construct ships. and tbh, that is a quite significant feature. after all, this means you can set up a (possibly limited) resupply and construction base anywhere you want, including some neutral grav well next to the enemy homeworld. of course, it would be hard to defend and get to, etc., but it is theoretically possible.

now, if that is not game changing, what is?

on Oct 10, 2008

now, if that is not game changing, what is?

Space Ponies added as a buildable unit.

In all seriousness, I hope the AI actually builds these things and customizes them, too. Right now the AI is kinda "eh" on the defenses. It builds some decent ones around the capital, but the majority of their planets, even on Unfair, is pretty unremarkable on stationary pew pews.

I've yet to see an AI build a superweapon, too.

on Oct 10, 2008

At least there's hope considering while a superweapon requires some thought to use effectively, planting a starbase down and having a defined setup as to what defensive upgrades are good should be easy for the AI to accomplish.

Imagine chasing one of the eternally fleeing AI fleets expecting an easy win and jumping into a minefield surrounded by upgraded turrets and a starbase bristling with firepower.

lol, an ai that is so smart as to know that humans expect it to run and thus set a trap based on their expected behavior of humans to follow them. thats brilliant

Well, someone somewhere is bound to create Skynet. Might as well be IC, while I'm on their good side.

Remember,

if (Cyborg::AcquireTarget()=="Annatar" || Cyborg::AcquireTarget()=="Annatar11")

   SpareHuman();

Unbelievable!!!! JUST ONE MORE MONTH TO GO!!!!!!!!

Shit this games just keeps on getting better and better...BSG mods, 7DS with their black holes and computer control and now THIS!

Screw university! I'm gonna play 24/7....J/K..but I think I'll be on it for a looooooooonnnnnggggggg while!

U'r probablly wondering why there is cry here, well it's because I don't think I will be able to get the ENTRATCHMENT cause there are couple of problems:

1) I have no credit card, I asked a friend of mine who has to oder SoaSE for me but since there will only be digital doawnload for ENTRECHMENT (At least I heard like that) I will not be able to do so.

2) I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina
