TweakTown has posted a new preview for Sins of a Solar Empire based off of the beta version. In the article they write, "Sins of a Solar Empire may not be the PC's biggest discussion point even during the usually quite uneventful early year release schedule, but perhaps it should be, because I can't help but come away extremely impressed with the game even during its beta stages."

Sounds great. Sleeper hit incoming, I suspect all the gaming sites are going to rate it very highly and all the people on the forums(Gamespot, IGN,etc) are going to be like "where did that come from?"

"where did that come from?"

That's exactly what I found myself saying when I first read about it on 1up back on Jan 10th. I will often keep tabs on games months before they come out, so to stumble across such a vast one so close to release was a surprise. I think many potential players still haven't heard of the game, none of my gaming friends did and even the EB guys I talked to when preordering didn't know what I was talking about. Unfortunately every time I mention the game to someone new I have to bring up similarities to Homeworld and GalCiv as frames of reference for them to understand what I am talking about, but they usually seem interested by the time I am done.

another positive interview, cool to see. via this website I saw so many sites I never even heard of before, pretty awesome.

but how they rate the current ai as promising and good remains a mystery to everyone else in the beta I guess. though I have no doubt it will be a lot better at and after release.

A very nice review. I hope Sins gets picked up by all the other "tech" sites as I think that is the real market for it anyway. Regarding his comments about "diplomacy" not starting with an "e". There are other creative words to use that ad some zest to it such as:

equanimity
empire
equipoise

Damn that is all I can think off at the moment - brain hurts now, must get a beer.

Anyway my personal favorite word for diplomacy that is not an "e" based word is "statecraft". It also has lots of buzz orientation to go with it.

lol spartan

equanimity
empire
equipoise

I do not think that some people would know what that means if ir just appeared in the article

I am really surprised that people are finding out about this game now. I found out about it through the Stardock newsletter! This "appearance" has been brewing for ages. There has been a void ever since Starcraft II (yes i said the 's' word) never came out. But now that it is coming out, Sins has taken priority over starcraft!

AI small maps suck. AI large maps does a lot better especially when you play them 1 v 3(team) and they get some time to build up. I can see where the writer calls it nice AI. OMG do you guys remember the stock Supreme Commander AI ?? Sins beta one beats that with a mile.

Now GIMME GAME!!!!

i found that sentence in the preview:

> The fully 3D world was easy to navigate in full 360 degree motion although most
> unit movement will naturally be on the X and Y axis.

so does that mean all my ships are stuck on the x-y-coordinates?
or is it possible to move my fleet where ever i want in the universe like in homeworld?

moving along all coordinate axis is very important to a space RTS for me

you can move your fleets whereever you want, you will just find yourself using the x and y axes pretty much all thetime

Why? Unlike in Air combat, the third axis is just another vector for distance. There is no inherit advantage for being "higher" or "lower" in space combat. It only needlessly complicates things, and makes the battle less about raw tactics. I don't understand why anyone would care to move up the grav well. It would give you nothing aside from making it harder for you to retreat.
