Stardock and Ironclad Games have decided to delay the final release of Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment, the first micro-expansion for the hit stratey game.  Originally slated for release on November 18th, Entrenchment will first be put through a public beta test for pre-order customers.  This will allow us to finely hone Entrenchment ahead of its final public debut, the date of which has not yet been set (it will largely depend on beta feedback).

While we know this will disappoint some in the Sins community, we feel this will help make Entrenchment a far stronger product overall.

Yes, multiplayer will be possible with the beta (its the best way to track down balance issues )

Since it was pulled less than 72 hours before it was to be put on Impulse with no warning it should be ready to go.

While I'm excited and anxious to get this release, I'd rather have it work properly and be the best it can be by taking extra time with it getting it right. And thank you SD crew for letting us know and being straight with us. I wish other companies would follow your lead. *cough* EA *cough*. RA3 has been out almost a month now and it plays like an early beta. It is the best CnC that EA has produced to date, but the amount of bugs, crashes, mp instability, and other annoyances suggest it could have used another 6 months of development.

Anyway, thanks again SD. And thanks for releasing supreme commander! I've wanted it for a long time, but I didnt want the DRM or the need for a disk. You guys rock!

My mother pre-order'd it on her credit card. So once it's been charged she will recieve a link for the download and a serial number? Also, as i wasn't logged in, would i just have to cancel that pre-order and pre-order it again?

There's no link for the download, it will be available on Impulse. The serial # will be in the e-mail, and it will automatically be attached to whatever e-mail was used for purchase and show up under "My Games" when you have Show Pre-Release Versions checked.

Also, as i wasn't logged in, would i just have to cancel that pre-order and pre-order it again?

Not quite sure what you mean by that. If it wasn't ordered from the same e-mail address as the one on your account, then it will show up attached to the e-mail account that ordered it. You can cancel the pre-order by contacting sales@stardock.com and do it again for the right e-mail account, or they may even be able to switch the account getting it on the fly - either way you'd have to contact them.

Hmm, ok thanks. Would i have to provide the pre-order reference number?

Okay, this didn't happen for me. I have an email from Stardock with an order number saying it is being processed, but no sign of one with a serial number, and no sign of an attachment.

Cobra, that's because it's not out yet You just have an order confirmation. Once the beta is actually released you'll get the second e-mail and all that stuff will happen

Hmm, ok thanks. Would i have to provide the pre-order reference number?

I'm actually not sure. I'll assume so so that they can locate the order quickly

I'd like to pre-order Entrenchment to support Ironclad, and if I have time to help Entrenchment's development by participating in the beta test.  If I do download the Beta software is there an easy way to switch back to vanilla v1.1 to play with my friends who don't have the beta software?

This is going to sound dumb, but I NEED to know when my card will be charged. I am about to get rid of my old card and get a new joint one with my partner (just got a new house, so doing the whole joint accounts thing)... If it isn't charged in time, the card won't be valid!!!! And I don't want to miss out or lose my discount etc...

I dont think it'll be soon though. Stardock haven't announce the date yet, so it shouldbe more than a month away.

This could make things "interesting". I was under the impression they would charge when the beta started since I had pre-ordered. The issue I have is that I don't know when that will be, or when the bank will issue me the new cards and shift the balance etc.. over....

on Nov 17, 2008

For me it said(along the lines of) It won't be charged untill it's released.

on Nov 17, 2008

Sorry everyone.  This is my fault.  I had to send my laptop in for repairs and wouldn't get it back in time for the 18th release.  As I wallowed in my sorrow I made a few unfortunate wishes that seem to have come true.    Flame me all you want...I deserve it.

EDIT: Is that smoke??

Let the flamage begin!
