Stardock and Ironclad Games have decided to delay the final release of Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment, the first micro-expansion for the hit stratey game.  Originally slated for release on November 18th, Entrenchment will first be put through a public beta test for pre-order customers.  This will allow us to finely hone Entrenchment ahead of its final public debut, the date of which has not yet been set (it will largely depend on beta feedback).

While we know this will disappoint some in the Sins community, we feel this will help make Entrenchment a far stronger product overall.
To be honest I find this as great news rather than disappointing ones... Sure we will wait bit longer but final product will surely be much better!

Until expansion is in making (or fixing rather) I will be going through 1.1...

Cool

maybe you are making a miscalculation here:

we thought we would get a quality product on the 18th. after all, there was no information on the intention of beta testing which could indicate how complete the game was. now we hear that it is just about to enter the (public) beta phase. and THAT is the disappointing part of the news. the fact that it will be tested is positive of course, as is the fact that IC is taking the time necessary for a finished and polished product.

a different point, but a conclusion that just dawned on me: the micro expansion set has in fact revealed a disadvantage which I am not sure everyone was aware of before. now, you have 3 balancing/ bug hunting/ etc phases instead of one. granted, each is probably not quite as extensive as a single, bigger one would be for just one big expansion, but in total I think that devs (and public beta testers) end up using more time for this last phase, which is - in effect, only a correcting, not a creative one. hope for all our sakes it does not escalate.

last words: looking forward to the beta. let's see if I can pick up on old days and be helpful again.
Of course I do understand what you mean and of course I would rather have bug free balanced product on 18th rather than beta test instead... But how to ensure it is bug free and balanced in the first place!? By beta testing it of course... Hence me taking it as good news

Florida. You'd have to pay for it anyway, whether you want to or not

florida, eh? hm, well, if he is anywhere near a beach, I am sure we could arrange something mutual. I'd love to go there some time.

can't say I heard of him much of late. how about you?

@ -=XX=-Nephilim: lets agree that part of the news is postive.

He's on IRC so I get to bug him pretty often Hasn't invaded the Elemental channel just yet, mostly confined to Demigod and the general Stardock channel...

The goal is to work out any show stoppers and get gameplay/balance feedback so I doubt anything will be left out. It should be fully playable.

Basically, if you pre-ordered you will be able to play it pretty soon and have a quite a bit of fun over xmas and a have a say in the final product.

Wait a minute: have fun over Christmas?

So, how long a time frame are we looking at before the final release then? I know you can't give a definite date, but a general idea would be nice.

I was bothered that i have to send my laptop off on the 21st so would only get a few days of a system that can handel it. (my poor tower only has a Geforce 5)

So it sounds like i'll get my laptop back around the time the beta goes up.

thanks for making sure the game is solid.

i'm betting that the reason for the delay is the delayed cycle on 1.1.......

I think the article posted in the other thread said January.

I'm cool with this.  Long experience has shown that more time in the oven is almost never a bad thing.  Will pre-order today.  Good work, IronClad.

Preordered!

What if I WANT to be charged now? I live in Canada and am somewhat afraid of a plummeting exchange rate.

on Nov 12, 2008

Well I'll preorder tomorrow. I really hope we get it before the end of the month (last few games I've played I spam as many Gauss turrets as I can, and against a hard AI's fleet thats really not enough).

My Impulse is being wierd too. "Error retrieving data." It's probably a server problem which will be fixed soon.

on Nov 12, 2008

Tis is way too much, whats up with impuse just reinstalled try to update sins to 1.09c and oo error updating, no update. im a pre buyer ohhh well just have to leave it yet another day to sit there and wait out the update process.

about what i said before im not going to feel bad, i belive those people who brought there own game trying to be ligit on there games, should beable to download the patch  btw what is the password for impuse archive in c: my documents ?. since i have partitioned my hard drive for windows and apps and not for back ups i wish to beable to back up a game and have access to it that is why i require impuse backup or so called archive backup which i dont understand as per say to get the backup back to impuse after you have done so, and what directory do you move onc you want it backed up ?.

So I think that this update is a bug and wasn't supposed to be public. Note the lack of a forum thread on it.

Chill out, 1.09b is still the latest until a thread by Yarlen.
