You can import your own ship models to the game using the Forge Tools (which we're going to release).

This is why I liked Kohan.

You only had a limited number of units really. The faction I played had one unit per each settlement, which allowed for raiding to be a viable strategy. You had usually 7 different types of frontline unit, and extra support units, plus a hero you could attach. Some combinations were quite powerful. There was a good bit of customization of units, but mostly only a few categories were used commonly.

Often in team games we had one person build all-cavalry armies (usually scout/ranger combinations) for raid defenses, since the low number of units meant things were spread out. It also allowed for attacking the support units/heroes more easily (which had lower defenses)

I say "only" in a comparative sense.
But if you build your computer from scratch, it can cost as little as £600 to get a very reasonable gaming PC, or £400 for a reasonable midrange PC or £300 if you just want it to play the latest games with a few settings on.

I'd go to a hardware forum if you are going to take this path and have little experiance though.

Oh, the most important thing it to have a good graphics card. Second is a cheep set of 2X1GB of RAM. Third is the processor, Core 2 Intel processors are good, if you don't have much money go for a cheep duel core and overclock it a little. Again with the overclock ask in a hardware forum.

My problem is that my budget range is in the area of $40-$80, which I know is not enough to buy almost anything, muchless a new processor. However, my situation may change in a few months, so I might get Sins sometime like August-ish. Depending greatly.

I like that. Does inch me closer to buying it but what about faction customization in the single player mode. See that is like my favorite part of GalCiv2. You guy did such a great job with the options and you continue to improve on that. I would still like a ship editor like in GalCiv2, now I know that stardock said that they didn't include one because it would slow the game play which I agree with, but how about one out side the normal game play and you can import those designs in to replace game standards, just in look mind you so that even in multi-player games they would work. To be honest I would love that in GalCiv2 it would make custom enemies a lot cooler.

Soon as my tax return comes I'm gonna buy a new PC to be dedicated to gaming I think and this is the top of my list for games to buy. Actually it occupies the first 5 spaces...

My machine isn't anywhere near good enough to run THAT... Maybe I'll have a better rig by July.
Oh well, I'll just have to make do with GCII till then.

Don't forget to actually look at the minimum specs.

I would slightly revise my earlier statements after having watched the begining of Legends of Galactic Heros . Sins seems to have taken much inspiration from LoGH.

Don't forget to actually look at the minimum specs.

They're amazingly low for the amount of eye candy in the game, you might be pleasantly surprised. Here they are:

- Windows XP SP2 / Vista
- 1.8 GHz Single-Core Processor
- 512 MB RAM (1 GB RAM for Vista)
- 128 MB 3D DirectX 9 Video Card (Radeon 9600 / GeForce FX 6600 and above)
- DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
- DVD-ROM Drive (for retail copies)
- 3 GB Hard Drive Space
- Keyboard and Mouse
- DirectX 9.0c

The recommended system requirements are:

- 2.2 GHz Dual- or Quad-Core Processor
- 1 GB RAM (2 GB for Windows Vista)
- 256 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon X1600 / GeForce 7600 and above)

Like I said, my machine isn't anywhere near good enough to run that. I guess I might have it by July since then I'll have a machine to run the baddest of the bad.

Just kidding. I can run it, but can't dish out 50 bucks just now.

Are there any gameplay examples for sins? They convinced me to buy GCII...

I second this, are there are beta / developer AARs around for Sins?
on Jan 27, 2008
There was some gameplay videos from the betas available on their forum, not sure if they're still there.

I downloaded some gameplay videos posted by one of the regular Sins forum members and have them on my PC somewhere. The files are rather large (200MB a pop) but here is a link to the thread if you're interested. They may be a little dated though.
